Kansas City Shopping
From red shoes to items made of tin, the mythical yellow brick road leads to solid brick and mortar shopping in Kansas City. The City Market -- operating since 1857 and home to the Arabia Steamboat Museum’s pre-Civil War artifacts -- has more than 140 produce stalls and specialty gift shops filled with offbeat finds. Westport, once a Civil War battle site, now keeps the peace with boutiques, galleries, and eateries. Near the convention center downtown, Bob Jones Shoes -– "We Give Everybody Fits" -- supplies designer footwear for men and women at factory outlet discounts. Country Club Plaza, with Anthropologie and Tiffany & Co., features 150 shops and dining enclaves. Both Brookside and the Crossroads Arts District feature specialty shops, and there’s a Costco Wholesale Club near the tri-level, 60-shop Crown Center, also the international headquarters of Hallmark Cards.
On the Kansas side, Prairie Village Shops operate in one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. The open-air Corinthe Square Shops in Prairie Village stocks antiques to modern goods. In Overland Park, Oak Park Mall is anchored by Nordstrom, Dillard’s North, and Dillard’s South, with shops from Abercrombie & Fitch to Zales. Other Kansas side malls include the Great Mall of the Great Plains in Olathe, with 140 factory outlet and specialty stores; Town Center Plaza in Leawood, with Coldwater Creek to Cold Stone Creamery; and Zona Rosa, near the airport and reminiscent of downtowns from the past, with a Marshalls Megastore, and shops including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lane Bryant, and Children’s Place.
